Blog Post 3: Wands, Wars, and Wonderings

My favorite part of this last book was Harry’s “speech” to Voldemort right before Voldemort was killed. He explained everywhere that Voldemort went wrong in his quest to immortality.  This answered so many questions that the wizarding community and readers were asking.  He even explained a lot to Voldemort himself; like how Snape was never master of the Elder Wand; how Voldemort, so obsessed with death, looked over the fact that Dumbledore had been disarmed by Draco Malfoy before he was killed.  The way the whole story of the Elder Wand ties together is just so cool. The fact that the Elder Wand was Harry’s in the end is just too perfect.  After Draco had become master of the Elder Wand, Harry took Draco’s own wand by force.  As this is a type of disarming, all wands under Draco’s power changed allegiances.  Wand loyalty is one of the most creative parts of Rowling’s story, in my opinion.  Speaking of Dumbledore, I have to admit I was a little miffed when I found out he was raising Harry, as Snape put it, as a pig for slaughter.  On the other hand, what else could he have done?  Of course he could have told Harry about his fate earlier; but, it was out of Dumbledore’s love for Harry that he wanted to keep Harry happy for as long as possible.  This is why I have no ill feelings towards Dumbledore.  Love causes people to make choices that are not always best for everyone.  My feelings overall towards him remained the same throughout the series.  If anything, they became more respectful.  Overall, the ending of the Harry Potter series is very good.  The epilogue lacks information I wish it would have given, like what Harry’s job is and what initially happened to Hogwarts after it was mostly destroyed.  However, interviews with JK Rowling revealed all of that anyway.
