Empathy

There are two characters that many people can empathize with, especially within Order of the Phoenix. These two characters are Neville and Luna. I believe that most people can see a little of themselves within both of these characters. Firstly, Neville is a boy that doesn’t have many close friends, and therefore sometimes struggles in classes. We also get to see Neville when he is most vulnerable when he is at St. Mungo’s visiting his parents. The empathy at this point is flowing out of me for Neville because he tried so hard to hide this most inner secret from everyone, and the three people that he is closest to at school get to see him when he is most vulnerable.

The next character is Luna. There are two specific scenes that make me empathize with Luna. The first is at the end of Order of the Phoenix when she is looking for all of her belongings. Everyone has at some point been the subject of a practical joke that they didn’t find particularly funny, that is basically Luna’s entire life. People talk behind her back and call her Loony. She just shrugs it off because she is comfortable with whom she is and that is why Luna is my favorite character. The second scene is where harry invites her to Slughorn’s Christmas party. The entire school goes crazy that the famous harry potter chose the weird Loony Lovegood to accompany him to the party. Once again Luna just shrugs it off and has great time at the party because she finally feels included.

Both of these characters triumph in the series when they got to the Ministry to fight off the Death Eaters. Neither of them shows any cowardice in going there. In fact they are the ones that insist on going to the Ministry. It is at this point that both characters find their niche in school, and everyone can relate to finding themselves in a niche of some kind.
